Which places do you still want to see in the world?! Want to know mine…? Warning: this may become a long blog! haha Yes, I have travelled to 40+ countries, but there is still so much beauty to explore in this world! Here’s My Travel Bucket List. One thing is for sure: travel till I die!!
Japan. This country is already on top of my list for years now. The diversity of this country, the perfectionism, so pretty, so clean, so different, so fascinating! The lack of a good travel buddy who wanted to go too vs. the costs and the language barrier kept me from going so far, but it’s getting a bit ridiculous. So it’s on my plan for Spring 2017 now… Tokyo, Kyoto, Nikko, Nara, Osaka, Yaeyama Islands, Ogasawara Islands, etc. Also the fast trains! Modern yet so much wisdom and ancient stuff. Man, this will be such a fantastic trip! So photogenic. My goodness, the number of pictures is likely to get crazy haha
Everyone who has been or has seen pictures of this beautiful country and its highlights understands what I am talking about, why I want to go to this country so badly. I know, currently with all the news the Middle East is not very popular these days. But I just can’t get Petra, Wadi Rum desert and the Dead Sea out of my head…
Tango in Buenos Aires, watch Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia, check out the Iguazu Falls and toucans, wine tasting in the Mendoza, horse riding with gaucho’s at the pampa’s… Do I need to say more?? Oh My God, I can hardly wait to go this Fall! 🙂 I was planning on going to Argentina already in 2007, to visit a friend who lived there at the time, but that plan totally failed back then, so finally going this year feels a bit like catching up. Should you have any good recommendations, please feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this blog.
This Spring I finally visited Russia for the first time. St. Petersburg was on my places-to-see-list for many years, so a dream came true! The interesting documentaries about Russia I have seen, and this funny book I read, highly contribute to my urge to see more of Russia. The country fascinates me because it is different to me. It has a lot to offer, with its rich history and nature. I simply cannot stop making pictures of the stunning orthodox churches! I’d love to see Saint Petersburg in late Spring or Summer too, when the parks are colorful. Also Moscow and southern Russia are on my to do list for this year. Love the Russian food as well!
Every time I see this television program which arranges people to go and visit their family Down Under, the shots fascinate me. Damn, Oz is such a beautiful country!! Of course the amazing wildlife – kangaroos, koalas, quokkas, crocs… And very important: a friend of mine lives in Sydney, who I would love to visit, so I really need to go… It would also be lovely to go out to an Australian wine estate together. Cheers mate! Great Ocean Road and Whitsunday Islands will be magnificent. Oh and let’s not forget about the Great Barrier Reef, before it is totally gone… (what a shame)
I imagine this cute wooden house in Finnish Lapland, with a fire place and a cozy couch, outside surrounded by lots of snow. Picked up by a snow scooter, on excursion with a husky dogs sleigh ride for a day… Enjoying the private sauna at the end of the day. Watching the Northern Light. A dream would come true, so romantic!
New Zealand (southern island)
I have been to New Zealand (too) many years ago, as part of my family is from this magic country. According to my baby sister the most beautiful country of the world! So far I have only visited the northern island, so my brother keeps telling me that the southern island is the most beautiful… Obviously I cannot accept being the only sibling that did not visit Milford Sound (yet)! It would be fantastic to take a helicopter ride there! And to see the Franz Josef Fox Glacier, Wanaka, Westport, swim with dolphins at Kaikoura… Now I ‘only’ need to find 3-4 weeks of holidays to go, plus a great sum of money. For sure in combination with Sydney!
Botswana & Victoria Falls
When visiting Namibia and South Africa a couple of years ago, I knew for sure: this will not be my last time in Africa. I think that everyone who has ever been understands what I am talking about. Africa has a certain smell, a certain feeling, a certain excitement. There are so many unbelievable, amazing things to see. The animals, the people, the nature. Botswana must be insane. Contrary the drought in Namibia, with hippos and rhinos, expansive marshy plains. An adventure with a 4×4 and a tent on top. A flight over the Okavango Delta and Valley that stars in so many nature and wildlife documentaries. And then of course the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, the widest falls of Africa! Scottish explorer David Livingstone said already in 1855: “Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”.
Antarctica, South Georgia & the Falklands
When I am going to Argentina later this year, I’ll try to avoid Ushuaia, because for sure I will long desperately to jump on a boat to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falklands. And I can’t, as I will not have enough time there & then, so better avoid the frustrating confrontation this time… One of my best friends actually works on a small scale expedition ship that goes to Antarctica several times a year. Such trip can costs tens of thousands of dollars. She actually invited me to come along with her, for a reduced price… I only need to find some 3-6 weeks…!
Why I want to go?! Come on, isn’t that too obvious?! I think that between Ushuaia and Antarctica one can find one of the most beautiful, pure piece of nature planet earth has to offer. Coming from a country where snow rarely falls, snow and ice are magical to me. The unique flora and fauna. Different kinds of penguins, seals, whales, sea elephants, sea lions, albatrosses; it would be fantastic to see them in their natural habitat!
Rain forest, exceptional exotic animals like sloths and green tree frogs, waterfalls such as Llanos de Cortés, national parks Chirripo and Volcán Arenal, hot springs, tropical beaches like Playa Flamingo, Playa Avellana and Jaco… Costa Rica has much to offer and I heard good stories about it, so I it’s on the bucket list!
Well of course there is more to explore. I wouldn’t be me if that wasn’t so! I won’t go into details for all of them, just to give you an idea…
